5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Live Abroad At Least Once
Believe me, I get it, I really do. The thought of something new filling your brain with terror, angst, apprehension, uneasiness, especially thinking about moving to a new city, or maybe even a new country. These were my exact thoughts in the spring of 2017. For months I knew that moving to a new country could be on the cards for me. But thinking and knowing is a whole different story.
Nearly a year and a half later and I can safely say that moving from the tiny country of England to the gigantic place that is the USA has been single handedly the best experience of my life. And here are 5 reasons why:
1. It pushes you out of your comfort zone
Having to adapt to new surroundings,new cultures, new workplaces, even new languages (even if it is still English lol) are all things that are going to be thrown your way and they are all pretty big things when you're in your own country so imagine what it's like abroad! But seriously once you overcome this it means anything that comes your way you will be able to deal with like a champ!
2. Learning how to become independent
Yep. That's right at some point everyone needs to grow up and become independent. But living abroad throws you in straight away as you most likely will not have your parents to fall back on and you have to get used to living by yourself or with other people who aren't obliged to help you out at all.
3. Broadening your mindset
You will be gaining a whole new perspective on life. You will see how different cultures interact with one another, what their work life is like, the food and drink will be different everything will be different, even if it is small things. In turn you will become more adaptable in future with anything that comes your way.
4. Materialistic things do not matter
It is more than likely that you will have had to burn a big hole in your pocket to start off with so that will prevent you from having materialistic things lol. But you will realize that memories and experiences are far more important than a $1000 bag or a $60,000 car when you've been able to travel the world and see places you have only ever imagined seeing.
5. Finding yourself
Now this is probably the most cliche thing ever! But it's soo damn true! Living in a different place you can create a whole new life for yourself. Let's be real for a hot minute and admit that we all hide parts of our personality because we're terrified of being judged by friends and family, well guess what you won't need to do that anymore. You can be whoever you want.
I bet you've got your suitcase packed already! Lol, i'm kidding but in all seriousness living a different country has completely changed my outlook/attitude towards life. If you get the opportunity to live in a different country then take the bull by the horns and ride it out, I promise it will be the best experience of your life!
